Volunteering with New Roots!

The New Roots for refugees program is training refugee women to be urban farm business owners right here in Kansas City. A large part of this training is assistance in selling at the market. Many of the women speak very little English, and are concerned about answering customer’s questions and financial transactions. Volunteers will be an integral part of making sure that the women succeed!

We’re growing and are almost ready to begin selling at market. We will be selling at the Brookside Farmer's Market (located at 63rd and Wornall Road) on Saturdays. We hope to be there on July 19th, and needs lots of volunteers who want to hang out at the farmer’s market and help refugee women sell the produce that they have been working so hard to grow. It will be a really rewarding volunteer experience.

We will be having a volunteer training for those interested in helping out. This does not commit you, but will just give you more information about what will happen on market day. The training will be on Thursday, July 17th from 6:00-7:15pm at Catholic Charities, 2220 Central Ave. Kansas City, KS 66102. Please email me at or call at 913.621.5255 x.187 if you can make it, and feel free to recruit some friends!
